I am San Bu Ra, an undergraduate student of Public Policy, Management and Politics program at City University of Hong Kong, studied at Murdoch University, Perth, Western Australia for a semester exchange program.

A chance to study in a new environment, such as interacting with professors and students from different cultural norms and backgrounds, gave me the opportunity to explore new areas of the social world. There were many things which seemed very hard to settle up and made me wondered, such as saying "Thank you" or "Cheers" to bus drivers when the passengers get off which I have never experienced in Hong Kong or my home country, Myanmar. I did learn to respect different cultures while adjusting to fit in with the community where I was in.

Besides, the learning style in the Murdoch University favoring individual learning styles generated me to be a more independent and responsible learner. I believe that exchange program brought various benefits to my healthy study life in diverse ways. It was indeed a challenge for me to stabilize in the new university and country within a semester. However, it undoubtedly was an eye opening experience.

The exchange study also gave me a chance to meet with post-graduate scholarship winners at the Murdoch University which inspired me with new visions of further studies and career planning after my undergraduate studies.

A semester exchange study at the Murdoch University, therefore, framed me to be a more self-reliant person through gaining the chance to know myself more; my capability, acceptance of diversities and having new insights for my life-long learning goals. And it has trained me to value not only educational but also cultural diversities for building up of my professional career.
