TSANG Ling Yan

Student of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong
Exchange to The University of Queensland, Australia

"How has your exchange been?" is probably one of the questions I was asked most frequently here in Brisbane. And to answer that question, I often simply say "great!". But my exchange experience was far more complicating and exciting than a simple expression of "great"!

Undoubtedly, many exchange students often make the most of their short stay in the foreign land by travelling as much as they can. I am one of those exchange students. But before going into all the fun and memorable moments I had when travelling elsewhere, courses that I took in The University of Queensland were equally (if not more) fascinating. As a geography student, I enjoy taking different field trips and learn outside of classrooms. Here in Australia, I have the precious opportunities to conduct different long field trips. For the course about Australia's marine environment, I enjoyed all the fun stuff alongside learning in Heron Island. This included night snorkeling and coral reef walking.

I even had the chance to see sea turtles hatching in the wild! Field trips from other courses were also unique and unforgettable.

Getting back to travelling, I surely enjoyed it a lot, even when I was travelling alone. I went to Sydney for a short trip earlier and I saw some world-class scenery and had a great time. During the trip, I joined a day tour to the well-known Blue Mountains. Not only did I ride the world's steepest cable car, I also met some great people on the tour. I certainly believe that one of the biggest advantages of travelling alone is that we get to meet people from different backgrounds. This makes the world smaller, and people closer.

While I can go on and on to talk about my exchange experience, I simply want to say I am very glad that I have stepped out of my comfort zone and gone on an exchange. It is never too late to challenge yourself!
