Nga Hin LAW, Clarence

Student of City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong
Exchange to University of Tasmania, Australia

Good day! It has been awhile after my marvelous adventure in Tasmania months ago. I want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all the people who helped me in my exchange study, including the Australia government, the participating universities as well as the Cheung Kong Infrastructure Holdings etc. that facilitates the exchange programme, without their help we the students could never experience such a life-changing adventure successfully.

Throughout this half year, I have gone through a lot of my "first time" in Tasmania. My first time to live in a English-speaking area, first time to experience the power of nature, first time to play with the kangaroos, first time to actually feel the kindness and friendliness of the Aussies. To me, Australia is such a charming country that people could be so enjoyed in the lively cities and, for those who like wild, Australia is the best place for them to feel the nature with wild animals around while breathing the fresh air. During my journey in Australia, I am thankful that I could travel to different cities, from embracing the natural resources in Tasmania, to surfing around the vivid Gold Coast as well as to walking through the modern Melbourne city.

Apart from above, such exchange study also brought me insights about cultural issues and differences.

Campus can also be crazy and wild!

For students from the east, we normally see university as a place majorly for knowledge acquisition. We could never expect that we could be that crazy and enjoyable in official university activities during the academic weeks, that barrels and parties are always on for students during school time. I did feel surprised
by how the students enjoyed themselves during these activities in the campus. I am glad that I could participate and made a lot of new friends there.

A new teaching style to me

Rather than just lecturing, classes in my host university emphasize interactive lessons in a smaller class. Such interactive classes definitely encouraged the students to express more, I felt so pleased to voice out in the class as this is also the crucial element that I could build up my relationship with the local students even I am a boy who came from a strictly opposite city and culture.

All in all, I see this journey as milestone in my life. Such exchange study did develop my horizon about the globe that I have never thought of, and what I know now is still just a very small picture of the world. These five months have made me aspire to go for more outbound opportunities, no matter in studying, working or living in a different culture. I do encourage students to go for aboard, as the world is bigger than what you could imagine.
