Hello! I am Cho Zin Thet, an exchange student from City University of Hong Kong and I am really appreciative for the Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Awards. Going on exchange to study in Australia has had many positive impacts on my learning and cultural discovery. First of all, it has given me many opportunities to be exposed to Australia’s cultural diversity. I met with not only Australians, but also many international people at Murdoch University. I was exposed to diverse religions, language, culture and people.

Secondly, in terms of academic education, I have realised that discussion amongst students and teachers is one of the fundamental ways of learning and discovering diversified subjects. It raised our curiosity to learn more by discussing political, social and economic issues. The learning environment is more flexible for students which emphasises critical thinking and analytical thinking on subjects. In addition, as English is my second language, my English skills have dramatically improved after the exchange program.

Thirdly, it has improved my interpersonal skills by going out with many students and exploring the nature and places in Australia. For instance, exploring amazing beaches, interesting museums, national parks, and the very nice natural environment with distinct animals. One of my dreams were to travel around the world, to challenge myself and get out of my comfort zone. I feel independent, free and like a more confident person.

Overall, my exchange was a really incredible experience. I met very friendly people and was in a comfortable environment, with cultural diversity, a flexible learning atmosphere for education and was exposed to nature. All of these are very remarkable and recognised characteristics of studying in Australia. Without this scholarship provision, I would not have seen these beautiful and amazing parts of the world. I am really grateful and proud of this opportunity.
