CHAN Ho Fat

Student of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong
Exchange to The University of Adelaide, Australia

Exchange – it’s just like a dream to me. I am glad that I have had a chance to go overseas to study. It’s been an indelible experience and my first time travelling overseas on my own.

It’s my first time stepping into non-Asia land, especially the country which I have long been. Everything is new and amazing. Unlike Hong Kong, where people are grouped mainly in districts of estates. Here in Adelaide, there are all small buildings and houses outside the city (CBD) area. In order to involve myself in Australia, I chose to live in a house in the suburbs. Although the location is not as convenient as living in the city, it is really a new and fresh lifestyle for me. This is western life.

You can also find everything special in a supermarket. It’s more comprehensive! With brand-new products and high-quality fresh products, I can’t stop trying the new things.

One more amazing thing in Australia is the weather. There is only rain and wind in the city and the sky is absolutely clear and blue. You can always enjoy good weather and even going to beach for sunset every day! At night, the dark sky is filled with a large amount of stars. Looking at the sky, you will find everything quiet and peaceful!

Adelaide, being the fifth most livable city in the world, has a perfect work environment. The working hours are traditionally 9am to 6pm daily and everyone is free after work.

As a multi-cultural country, Australia does very well in cultural harmony. Especially in Adelaide, the Aussie’s are nice and helpful, they are willing to lend a hand to others and even start a conversation with strangers. When I first arrived in the CBD, a local student gave me a guide on the way to school and I didn’t ask for any help first.

Everything is beautiful and peaceful in the city. I really like Adelaide and Australia. This exchange is an unforgettable memory in my life – thank you Cheung Kong Group and the Australian Government.
