Yeung Tsz Kit, Donald

City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Exchange to Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia

I have many wonderful memories to accompany me through the rest of my life and lots of unforgettable memories from the 6 months that I spent in Melbourne in 2008. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the Cheung Kong Group and the Australian Government for giving me such a memorable experience.

Apart from studying hard at RMIT University, with the help of the Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Scholarship, I was able to travel to the most amazing places in Australia. Almost every weekend during the semester, I went out with friends and explored the scenery in and around Melbourne. We have been to St Kilda beach, Melbourne Central and Great Ocean Road, which are all wonderful and spectacular places in Melbourne.

For a more international working experience, I worked at Dun & Bradstreet, one of the leading marketing research companies in the world, during the semester. I was a part-time translator at Dun & Bradstreet and my duty was to collect information in Hong Kong and translate the information to English. Although I only worked for the company for a short period of time, I met a lot of friends of different nationalities and somehow understood the working culture in Melbourne which was definitely a valuable experience for my career development.

Another highlight was the opportunity to meet lots of friends of different nationalities. Melbourne is a multinational city ¡V I met classmates from Vietnam, Thailand, Mongolia, America and China. Meeting friends of different nationalities not only provided a chance for us to practice our language abilities (English and Mandarin), it also gave me the opportunity to understand the different points of view of my friends. By exchanging ideas on some issues, I got lots of innovative ideas from them and got used to thinking in different angles which are definitely helpful for me to analyze problems in the future.

Melbourne is one of the most suitable places for people to live in. Indeed, the environment in Melbourne is wonderful. I have been to some cities such as London, Tokyo, Seoul, and Shanghai. However, Melbourne is my favourite place to stay so far. This impressive and beautiful city welcomed me with delicious food and the delightful generosity of the local people. We can find lots of traditional dishes in Lygon Street and Chinese dishes in Chinatown. The people have all been nice to me and willing to offer help to everyone in the city.

To all those who assisted me in my exchange studies, I offer sincere thanks.

I have no doubt that the benefits of my 6-month stay will serve me well for decades to come. I hope that I can go back to Melbourne again and travel around Australia in the near future.
