Exchange to Southern Cross University, Australia

Being in Australia is a wonderful experience. For my exchange study, I have been attending Southern Cross University. This university is located in a small city called Lismore, which is quite different from Hong Kong. The experience has changed my habits and lifestyle.

In Hong Kong, everything is very convenient. For example, we can buy food easily in Hong Kong. But here, the transportation is not convenient at all. At first, I really could not get used to it. But later on, I found this brought me back to the simple life. People in Lismore enjoy their simple lives and a nice environment. I learnt a different way of living in Lismore. Time management is very important here. As there is no public transport during weekends and weekday evenings, we had to manage our time and catch transport before the sun sets! After being here for almost 2 months now, I really enjoy the nice and natural environment. It takes around one hour to get to the nearest popular tourist and backpacker town called Byron Bay, where there are nice beaches and sunshine. I do enjoy the sun and water in Australia.

Other than daily life, I have learnt a lot during my studies. In Australia, the teaching style is very different to Hong Kong. Students need to find their own readings and discuss their ideas during tutorials. In Hong Kong, teachers usually prepare most of the materials for students. Also, students can exchange their opinions more freely here.

With the help of the scholarship, I have enjoyed traveling around Australia. During the past 2 months, I have planned trips for myself. This is the first time that I have planned and organized things by myself. It has been a challenging and wonderful experience and I have received great satisfaction and a sense of achievement from my plans. After finishing my exchange, I would like to make plans for traveling again. This has been an unforgettable memory and journey to me.

The scholarship has helped me to broaden my horizons. It has given me a chance to look a bit further than my hometown. This has been a fantastic experience in my life.
