Dr Ha Thi Thuy DINH

Student of Hanoi Medical University, Vietnam
Exchange to Queensland University of Technology, Australia

My fellowship funded by the Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Research Fellowship has been a great career development opportunity and an exciting life experience.

I still remember I had jumped for joy on the day my phone vibrated with the email from the Endeavour Fellowship. It brought me a chance to come back to Brisbane where I have spent my youth years doing a PhD at Queensland University of Technology ("QUT"). From my heart, I know that I want to further pursue a research career, and this fellowship has been a stepping stone to pave way for my journey. I was provided with an office in the corridor surrounded by all professors and witnessed the vibrant academic environment at QUT. Working closely with a professor has taught me to pay attention to details and manage time to meet research targets. I also met with other visiting academics from other countries who came to QUT to learn about curriculum or doing research. I was invited to talk in a forum to postgraduate students and academics at QUT about how to shape a research career following PhD graduation. One of my good impressions was the friendly interactions with professors of high calibre and I was at ease to discuss with them.

Having said that, that does not mean I was a bookworm during the fellowship. Brisbane atmosphere is too awesome to be missed. I loved every single moment lying down on green grass and looking at the blue sky, or cycling around a blossoming garden. It helped me to define what is truly important in my life: a good health and a peaceful mind. I have occasionally attended the Light Up Brisbane event where people from diverse countries and cultures paraded with light lanterns to welcome new Queenslanders; it taught me the essence of the Australian society, that is, inclusiveness. And when I visited the Queensland State Library, I could not stop questioning why the government had reserved a very beautiful location with a river view for book lovers, and after spending an hour there gave me an answer. I also loved the time visiting North Stradbroke Island by a huge ferry, picking strawberries in Rolin farm, or simply sunbathing in the unique beach-on-city at Southbank.

I deeply thank CK Infrastructure and the Endeavour supporting team who enabled me to have a fantastic experience during my Fellowship. It has been great life experience that encouraged me to go ahead. I definitely recommend friends and colleagues to apply for this Fellowship.
