My Hong Kong exchange experience was life changing. Immersing yourself in a completely different culture is an incredibly terrifying experience at first.

Going through the initial culture shock can be quite overwhelming, trying to adapt to new attitudes and behaviours can be a difficult task. However, that is where you learn the most, not only about yourself but about the country you are in.

As such, Hong Kong certainly is a unique experience. It has colonial history and Chinese heritage that resulted in a very unique culture, a mixture of the West and the East.

However, that is where Hong Kong amazed me. The food, the culture and the people made this experience incredibly worthwhile. From getting lost in the crowded and vibrant streets of Mongkok, to climbing Lion Rock, to having hot pot with the locals and trying to learn basic Cantonese, everything about this incredibly unique part of the world is amazing.

The local people are very friendly and welcoming. As such, the people are what made this experience worthwhile, both the exchange students and the local students. Their stories, their worldview, helped me develop personally and gained a greater appreciation for the cultural differences that made us all distinctly unique.

As a whole, my experience in Hong Kong will be the one I would never forget. The friends I made and the experiences I had are unforgettable.
