Samira SARDANA

Student of Lady Shri Ram College for Women, University of Delhi, India
Exchange to LaTrobe University, Australia

When I was selected for the Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Award at LaTrobe University, I was a bit nervous because little did I know that I was going to have the time of my life. An exchange doesn't only give you a few months of a new culture, language and country, but it gives you a lifetime of opportunities. There is no doubt about the fact that the amount I have learnt and developed as a human being through this programme is incomparable.

I have always been fascinated by this majestic country and therefore utilized my time by travelling around and noticing how multicultural and diverse it is. People often ask me what my favorite memory from the programme was, but that is so hard to answer because there are so many! However, meeting the Governor of Victoria, feeding adorable koala bears and baby kangaroos at the Maru Animal Park in Phillip Island and soaking up the sun on Surfer's Paradise beach are at the top of my 'favourites list'. I fell in love with Australia from the word go. Interacting with people from all around the world and getting an insight into all these beautiful cultures have certainly been the highlight of my entire experience. I used this wonderful opportunity to not only explore the magnificent land down under but also deepen my understanding and knowledge about the economic and health care system of Australia. My professors at LaTrobe were outstanding mentors and extremely motivating which just enriched my entire study abroad experience. The whole academic environment and student life in Australia were very different from what I was used to. Having said that, I most certainly enjoyed every bit of it and found it highly liberating and self-competent.

I cannot thank my alma mater, Lady Shri Ram College, enough for giving me this once in a lifetime opportunity. It was undeniably the best 5 months of my life and I have made friends and memories during this exchange programme that I know I am going to cherish forever. Studying abroad gave me a new outlook and perception on life and I hope everyone gets the opportunity to experience a unique education abroad experience too.
