Kaifeng GU

Student of Fudan University, China
Exchange to The Australian National University, Australia

It is an unforgettable experience to study in Canberra for one semester. I had never been to Australia before this trip. I had a lot of imaginations and expectations about life, education, people, and culture. And everything turned out to be even better.

I lived in the beautiful campus of Australian National University. The Canberra Center was nearby, which made life convenient. It also did not take much time to reach the botanical garden in the Black Mountain, where I enjoyed taking walks in the afternoons. Chifley Library in the campus was an ideal place for reading books. There were comfortable seats and silence which enabled me to completely focus on my study.

I enrolled in four courses: International Business, Introduction to International Relations, Mathematics of Finance, and Information Theory. Although some of them were challenging, they were all rewarding courses. Kind professors and tutors skillfully explained the concepts and theories to make them clearly understandable. Additional reading materials contributed to a deeper understanding of knowledge. I especially enjoyed the Introduction to International Relations which broadened my horizon and enabled me to seriously study the contemporary global issues for the first time.

Courses brought me not only knowledge, but also friendship with students from all over the world. These lovely people were smart and friendly. We studied together, discussed questions and played together. Through communication, we also learned more about different countries and different cultures. And undoubtedly, I knew more about Australia.

Life in Canberra was pleasing, and exploring other parts of Australia was exciting. In weekends, teaching breaks and after the end of the semester, I paid visits to nearby cities. I watched a play in the Sydney Opera House, saw the interesting graffiti murals in Melbourne and swam at the beach of Adelaide. In these cities, I also visited galleries, universities and museums. Most of them were quite impressive.

Time flies. I did feel a bit lost when I was leaving. The exchange experience in Australia is a precious memory. And I am grateful to Cheung Kong Group, the Australian Government, both universities, and all those who contribute to my wonderful journey. Thank you!
