I studied abroad in Shanghai, China with University Studies Abroad Consortium which is the program provider. I am so grateful to receive the generous support of the Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Awards.

Studying abroad in Shanghai was a life changing experience. Every day was a new adventure that was completely different from my life at home. While I was there, I studied Corporate Finance, Chinese (speaking, reading and writing), Calligraphy and Tai Chi.

Since I studied abroad for a full semester, I had more opportunities to travel. A group of friends and I travelled to different countries or cities once every two weeks. While I was in Taiwan, we visited a well-known Chinese temple in Kaohsiung called Fo Gwang Shan and it is said that if you write your wishes on the bamboo stick given to you, those wishes will come true. One of my wishes was to have a positive study abroad experience that I would never forget. Without a doubt, that wish came true and I would do it all over again if I had the chance.

People often ask me what my favourite memory from abroad was, but it is so hard to answer because there are so many. However, climbing up the Great Wall of China in Beijing, an excursion to Hangzhou and getting the opportunity to meet local people and invited to visit their hometown in Guilin are at the top of my ‘favourite list’.

Having that time away from home also allowed me to grow as an individual. Developing strong relationships with people is one of the most important and rewarding things that have happened in my life. I came with just a suitcase and left with uncountable best friends.
