Exchange to Flinders University, Australia

The reason why I wanted to study as an exchange student in Australia was because of my high school time spent in Jakarta, Indonesia. I went to an international school and met many friends from all different countries. Moreover, I had traveled to many countries around Indonesia, which gave me opportunities to learn about different cultures and customs. One of the countries I traveled to during high school was Australia, and I liked the atmosphere, beautiful nature and the advanced culture and I wished I could go back to visit again.

Then, I decided to go to a Japanese university, which was also a good opportunity for me to get a chance to study abroad. Yokohama National University, which I belong to, is in partnership with many foreign universities. Flinders University is one of these universities and I was attracted to this one because Flinders provided the subjects I am interested in, which are International Relations and Asian Studies. Moreover, I had wanted to go to Adelaide, which is still not so popular for Japanese people. Therefore, I decided to study at Flinders University.

It has been about half a year since I came to Adelaide, and I am enjoying my stay. The study is very hard, but studying with friends from different countries is fascinating in terms of broadening my outlook. My friends are the “competitors” who are motivating me to study hard. I also enjoy traveling around Adelaide and other cities in Australia.

Finally, I would like to thank all the people for supporting me through this experience. The officers at Flinders University are very kindhearted and always help me when I am in trouble. Family and friends in Japan always care for me and I especially must thank my family for supporting me both emotionally and financially. My friends in Adelaide are also always nice to me. I wouldn’t have enjoyed this stay without the support of these people. There are only 3 months left for me and I am really looking forward to enjoying the remainder of my stay.
