Fung Wing Sze, Michelle

The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong
Exchange to University of South Australia, Australia

I am greatly honoured to have received the Endeavour Australia Cheng Kong Scholarship. I have been enjoying a great time in Adelaide, Australia. I am so grateful to have the chance to study in Adelaide as I learnt a lot during this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Going on exchange to Adelaide has been my long-hopedfor dream as I visited Adelaide once before when I was 18 years old. I went there to learn how to fly a small-sized aircraft at Parafield Airport for a week. This small city left a wonderful impression on me at that time. I found Adelaide to be a truly beautiful city. This time, I am having a brand new experience. I am involved in an exchange programme to study in Adelaide for a year. I believe that I will have deeper understanding towards Australian culture during this trip.

This exchange experience has widened my horizons. Through the trip to Victor Harbour during orientation week, I got access to the breathtaking view of the natural scenery of South Australia. On top of that, I have been traveling to the outback of Australia during the semester break. I went to Alice Springs with 3 other exchange students during the 2-week teaching break. The 10-day-trip filled me with lots of fond memories. The breathtaking view of Ayers Rock, Kings Canyon and Kata Tjuta, which are situated in the centre of Australia, all sincerely impressed me. I was embraced by the starlit sky of the campsite at night ¡V I even saw shooting stars for the first time in my life!

During this exchange I have learnt to be independent since I cannot always seek help from my family whenever I encounter problems in daily life. I have had to find ways to tackle problems by myself. But I am glad that I have met a lot of new friends who accompany me in times of difficulty. They come from different countries. I have developed genuine relationships with local students and other international students from Japan, Malaysia and Germany, to name just a few. We have been dining out together and sharing funny things in each other¡¦s home countries. They have added shining sparkles to my exchange life. For example, I spent Mid-Autumn Festival, which is a traditional Chinese festival, with my friends in a local park. We enjoyed a lantern parade that was performed by local school kids. They were so cute, I had lots of fun even studying alone overseas during the festival.

I really want to express my sincere appreciation to Endeavour Australia Cheng Kong Scholarship Programme. Without this programme, I would not have this golden opportunity to immerse myself into Adelaide, a fascinating city in another part of the world and explore my potential during my third year of university life.
