Exchange to the Australian National University, Australia

Without experiencing personal growth, intellectual stimulation, cultural exchange and international exposure, there would be a missing jigsaw piece in the completion of the education puzzle.

There is something universally appealing about the thought of traveling to a foreign destination, learning new skills and experiencing new cultures, especially for a student. I have been to Australia as an exchange student for nearly a year through the Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Scholarship Programme. The exchange programme provided a valuable opportunity for me to become a culturally aware citizen, who is well-equipped for a career in the future.

I always wished I could travel somewhere that is different from my home. For years I yearned to go overseas and when I was twenty my wish came true: I was chosen for an exchange opportunity at the Australian National University. It seemed like the perfect ticket to the alternative lifestyle that I had been dreaming of. Thrilled to be transported to a completely brand-new environment, I have since become more mature and confident, with a great passion for life. This one-year experience has helped me to discover my strengths and weaknesses and taught me how to equip myself before graduation. Most importantly, it has given me confidence to achieve my goals in the future.

Canberra is a quiet and friendly national capital, which is the perfect study environment for academic enhancement. I enjoyed studying on the campus. Studying with students all over the world has enhanced my knowledge on global issues, stimulated different angles of thinking, and improved by ability to analyze different perspectives. I realized during my studies in ethics and political philosophy that people are being deprived of their basic needs. I think we are all obliged to try to do something about this. My studies helped me to see that the causes of deprivation are not simple and solutions need to be found, both individually and globally. A responsible person or company should be committed to enhancing equality in society.

Australia is a ¡¥melting pot¡¦ of culture, containing a wide variety of cultures from all over the world. It is important to have an open-minded approach to different cultures. People live with respect and tolerance in this harmonious country. I have met a lot of friends. I love the open, friendly and happy attitudes of Australians. It was the opportunity to have the experience of a lifetime, immersed in a new culture, building friendships with people from various cultural and social backgrounds.

Finally, I would like to express my sincere thanks to Cheung Kong, a company that always cares for society and fulfills its social responsibility.
